I love Yamakasa. They remodeled the whole restaurant and changed the menu. I love all the changes they did. Used to be a very casual café-life restaurant with neon signs and pictures of Marylyn Monroe. But now, it’s an upscale, yet still friendly atmosphere with bamboo walls and Japanese Art. It’s a perfect place for a date, as well as hanging out with your friends for a couple glasses of Kirin on Tap with Spicy Soft Shell Crab appetizer (they have full bar). It’s a hidden secret among Hollywood/Beachwood crowd because they don’t advertise and it is very easy to miss from outside. Don’t be fooled by the outside décor (it is located in a corner strip mall right next to Subway and Starbucks). Food is excellent. They always have the freshest fish in town and many specials like Hawaiian Bonito, Fresh Local Albacore, Albacore Sashimi with Crispy Onion (my favorite) and Ninja Tempura from Kitchen. Once you get to know the friendly sushi chefs, they will make you very special dishes you’ve never seen before. Dinner only and closed on Sundays.
